Air crash of Dana Air, blockage of compensation mechanism

Only 58 families out of 169 victims of the MD-83 crash which occurred last June received 30 000 USD in compensation. According to the law, in such circumstances relatives of the victims are entitled to 100 000 USD. The indemnification process is now at a standstill because of the absence of death certificates and administrative documents. The jet crashed on June 3 near Lagos airport as it run into a power line 9 kilometers from the runway. MD-83 hit the ground in a residential area killing the 147 passengers, 6 crew members and 16 people on the ground.
