ASEAN region, establishment of a compensation fund for victims of natural catastrophes

Following the initiative of Indonesia, the finance ministers of the ASEAN region have expressed their support for the project designed to establish a compensation fund for the victims of natural disasters.
No clear format of the insurance mechanism has been revealed. Various options are under consideration. The members of ASEAN are targeting the establishment of the fund before the end of 2011.
