Asian reinsurers are strong enough to cope with natural catastrophes

Standard and Poor's (S&P) said that the results of large reinsurers operating in the Asia Pacific region have been strongly impacted by the series of natural catastrophes occurring since September 2010.

However, outside of Japan, small regional reinsurers are hardly exposed to risks of natural catastrophes in Asia as underwriting has generally been confined to national territory. S&P, therefore, did not deem it necessary to review their ratings.
