Decrease of Japanese life insurers’ premiums

Japan’s four biggest life insurers reported a total decrease in premiums worth 2700 billion JPY (24 billion USD) during the 2016/2017 fiscal year which ended on March 31, 2017.

Dai-ichi Life Holdings, Nippon Life Insurance, Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance and Sumitomo Life Insurance generated an accrued turnover of 14 700 billion JPY (132 billion USD).

It is worth noting that Japanese insurance companies are operating more often outside Japan which is a saturated market. Nippon Life is intent on investing 1.5 billion USD in the countries with high potential of growth. Dai-Ichi has also carried out several acquisitions outside Japan, a strategy that enables it to generate substantial profits.
