Difficulties for motor insurance

While the motor business accounts for 34.5% of the market's non-life overall premiums volume with 25.760 billion FCFA (53.5 million USD) in 2004, it remains crippled. According to Association des Sociétés d'Assurances du Cameroun (ASAC), this class of business is characterized by the uncivil conduct of motorists and by the difficulties encountered in compensating the road accidents' casualties. A third of the vehicles running in Cameroon are not insured. To make up for these shortcomings, ASAC's action plan envisages the set up of a direct compensation system (IDA: Direct Indemnification of the Insured) and the creation of a motor fund.
