Flight delay insurance

The Chinese airliner Shanghai Spring has signed a cooperation agreement with the insurer Dazhong Insurance to provide its passengers with an insurance policy that protects them against three-hour flight delays or possible cancellations. Such events may be accounted for by bad weather, mechanical failure or air traffic. it is the first time that such a cover has been proposed in China. This policy may be underwritten by the passenger upon purchase of the traffic document in return for 3 USD, which allows for an indemnification reaching 31 to 62 USD according to cases. Civil aviation statistics have shown that 76.5% of the 6000 passengers quizzed in a survey have sustained delays mainly because of bad weather.
