Increase in motor TPL insurance

During a meeting held on February 20, 2007 at the headquarters of the Conseil National des Assurances (CNA), the representatives of the Union des Assureurs et Réassureurs (UAR) have asked public authorities for a 50% rise in the tariff of insurance premiums as regards motor third party liability.

Currently amounting to an average yearly sum of 1200 DZD (16 USD), motor third party liability is deemed derisory in view of the level of compensations.

According to Amara Latrous, Chairman of UAR, for each 100 DZD (1.3 USD) motor third party liability premium paid, insurers have to disburse 236 DZD (3.2 USD) in compensations.
