Increase in the conviction of hospital facilities

According to SHAM, the most important French medical liability insurer, 1091 cases were lodged in tribunals against hospital establishments in 2016. The latter were held responsible for 65% of the cases files versus 58.4% in 2015. Since 2012, the conviction rate of hospitals and clinics exceeded 50%.

The average amount of sanctions amounted to 267 478 EUR (281 850 USD) in 2016, 27 cases of which ordered to pay 1 million EUR (1.05 million USD) each.
