Nairobi aspires to become an international financial center

Kenyan authorities are intent on making of Nairobi an international financial center, with the establishment of universal health insurance standing among the pillars of this ambitious project.

Godfrey Kiptum, CEO of Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) clarifies that the objective is to achieve by 2022 the coverage of Kenyan population, estimated at more than 48 million people in 2016.

The opening of direct and reinsurance markets to foreign players also stands among the government’s priorities. Prudential, Scor, Allianz and CICA-RE have recently been established in Kenya.
