New anti-seismic construction standards

The Central Municipal Council (CMC), the state-run body in charge of the whole kingdom’s municipalities, is drafting a new building Code in order to include anti-seismic standards in it. This project will be completed by the end of 2013. CMC has called upon the authorities to adopt the new construction standards for buildings and premises. These measures of prevention are intended to secure national facilities even though Qatar has not been significantly affected by an earthquake. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria and the United Arab Emirates soon, have adopted anti-seismic construction standards.
