New guidelines in the reinsurance sector in Asia

The several reforms introduced or being introduced in some Asian countries have resulted in the increase of the demand for insurance as well as reinsurance. Thus, the insured losses caused by natural catastrophe risks throughout the Asia region accounted for 19% of total economic losses in 2015 compared to 10% in 2014.

Regulators are intent on introducing a series of measures aimed at protecting local reinsurers. The goal is to maintain maximum risk and premiums in the country. In this regard, India, Indonesia and Vietnam are drafting legislation.
