New law facilitating autonomous car tests

On 11 October 2017, the California authorities presented a bill authorizing the testing of autonomous cars without the presence of a natural person on board. The new regulations would come into force in 2018.

If the automakers have approved this decision, the Consumer Watchdog has strongly criticized it. According to it, this initiative threatens road safety. "It is unacceptable to see industrialists use roads as private laboratories," it said.

In California, there are 42 companies with permits to test independent cars.
