Disgrace insurance on the rise among American producers

A new insurance product called "disgrace" is now available in Hollywood. It is about covering the losses incurred in case of sexual harassment, racism, assaults, as well as any outrageous behavior caused by a member of the production, and which may result in the cancellation of the broadcast of a program. Several events have recently disrupted US channel programs.

Following a racist tweet from lead actress Roseanne Barr, the broadcast of the series of the same name was stopped. Netflix also canceled the broadcast of House of Cards following multiple charges of sexual harassment against actor Kevin Spacey.

With the launch of the #MeToo movement, this type of risk tends to spread, resulting in huge losses to the production.

It should be noted that insurance costs producers 1 to 2% of their budget. The introduction of a "disgrace insurance" could significantly increase the rates.
