New ranking of reinsurers worldwide

The rating agency AM Best has unveiled its ranking of the top 50 world reinsurers according to the 2016 turnover.

This edition is marked by many changes within the top 10. With a volume of gross written premiums of 35.6 billion USD, Swiss Re is henceforth the world's number one reinsurer. The Swiss company dethroned the German Munich Re which generated, as at December 31, 2016, a turnover of 33.2 billion USD.

The 2016 edition is also marked by the exit of two companies from the world's top 10. PartnerRe and Everest Re moved backward and were replaced by two new entrants Korean Re and the Canadian Great West Lifeco.
