Reinsurance tariffs still falling

According to a study conducted by Willis Re, the pricing of reinsurance treaties observed during the July 2017's renewals remains on downward trend. The abundance of capacity generated by the inflow of alternative capital (natural catastrophe bonds, securitization) explains partly this trend.

For Aon Benfield, the capacity of the reinsurance market amounted to 595 billion USD in 2016, 75% more than that of 2008. For its part, SCOR estimated the reinsurance market turnover at 230 billion USD in 2016, down by 4% compared to 2015.
