Rising demand for political risks

Local insurance companies face the rising number of demands for terrorism and political risks covers made by customers.
The war waged against Somali militia by the Kenyan army and the general elections due in 2012 have revived fear of excesses. The insurer UAP has reported a 15% increase in demands of such risks, which led the company to plan a 30% increase of this niche in 2012. Reinsurance terms have been tightened for these kinds of cover deemed to be quite risky.
