Special Women, Lamia Ben Mahmoud, chaiman and general manager of Tunis Re

Chairman and general manager of Tunis Re since 11 August 2009, Lamia Ben Mahmoud is the first woman to hold such a position in a Tunisian insurance or reinsurance company.

She has been also member of the steering committee of the Tunisian federation of insurance companies (FTUSA) since 2009, vice-president of the African Insurance Organization (AIO) since May 2014 and member of the executive committee of that organization.

After graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and management from the Faculty of Sfax (Tunisia), L. Ben Mahmoud joined the Arab Maghreb institute of development funding (IFID) for an under-graduate two-year course.

In December 1991, she became the holder of a diploma of specialized studies in insurance issued by IFID. Thereafter, a successful career kick started.

By the end of her studies, that is to say, in January 1992, L. Ben Mahmoud joined the public service where she was entrusted with the position of central inspector at the general department of insurance within the ministry of finance.

From the date of her recruitment to that of her appointment as head of Tunis Re, L. Ben Mahmoud has held various positions within the general department of insurance where she concluded her career as general manager in charge of the regulation of the insurance industry.

Very active on the national and international level, L. Ben Mahmoud has had an extremely busy schedule, sharing her days between her company Tunis Re and the different tasks of board member in various Tunisian and international insurance and reinsurance companies.
She has often been asked to serve on reflection and study commissions devoted to insurance.

Aged 48 and mother of three children, her professional duties left her little time to devote to her hobbies: music and reading.
