Special Women, Prisca Soares, secretary general of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO)

Prisca Soares is holder of a degree in French and German languages from Ibadan University (State of Oyo in Nigeria). She joined Nicon Insurance on 1st September 1977 as a trainee.

She spent 28 years, reporting for duty in 16 different positions. On January 25, 2006, P. Soares quit Nicon and Nigeria with the rank of chief executive officer to settle in Cameroon. In Douala, her reputation became continental when she accepted on 1 st July 2007 the post of secretary general of the African Insurance Organization.

Her perfect command over the English and French languages, along with her technical knowledge and skills were of valuable contribution in her new functions. She was in need of not only having the ability to communicate but also of being diplomatic and tactful to unite the "Africas" and restart an association of 54 countries.

Prisca Soares is passionate about her job. Being a gifted writer, the AIO’s general secretary does not hesitate to write on all topics related to insurance, attending many conferences and moderating business meetings and seminars. Since 1993, she has been member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.

This rich career was crowned with numerous awards including the "Women in Leadership Merit Award", the "Advocate of the Dignity of the Nigerian Women Award", the "Champion Insurance Day Award 2003 for Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Insurance Industry in Nigeria" and the "Africa International Merit Award".

P. Soares devotes the little free time available to swimming, dancing, singing, and playing crossword puzzles and traveling.
