The employment situation in the insurance industry

All insurance and reinsurance companies (excluding Maatec) employ 12 515 people in 2009, that is, 6% more than 2008, which stands for 0.13% of the country's workforce. The private sector accounts for 17.7% of the workforce, that is, 2096 jobs. The four major state owned companies (SAA, CAAR, CAAT and CNMA) provide 80% of the jobs in the sector. Two thirds of the employees are under 45 years.
The graduates of higher education account for 38% of the workforce. Executive staff represents 43% of the wage earners in 2009, compared to 40% in 2003. The rate of the employees’ access to training has increased to 21.4% from just 12% in 2003.
