The insurance business is benefiting from large infrastructure projects in Qatar

In order to host the Soccer World Cup in 2022, Qatar is investing heavily in major infrastructure projects. Roads, highways, subway, railway etc, are feeding economic growth. The GDP of 97.6 billion USD in 2009 more than doubled in 2012 at 207 billion USD. Local insurance companies are taking full advantage although most of major risks are placed in international markets.

According to Moody’s, premiums underwritten in the country amounted to 1.3 billion USD in 2012. This figure accounts for about 8% of the turnover reported in the sector by all Gulf countries.
