The political crisis has an impact on the insurance industry

The turnover of insurance companies is declining by 6.4% at 58 billion FCFA (99 million USD) over the first nine months of 2016. The riots that followed the reelection of Ali Bongo have slowed down insurance expenditure.

This setback is all the more obvious if we compare these figures with regard to the entire 2015 year which were of 118.9 billion FCFA (198 million USD). By the end of September 2016, the compensations disbursed for the benefit of policyholders shrank by 3.8% over one year whereas the progression of commission rates was roughly of 17% in the non life business.
