The toll of the Jeddah floods

The Jeddah floods, which occurred on November 25, 2009, caused damages ranging between 500 million and 1 billion USD. Some sources have estimated the figure to be above 2 billion USD. 120 people have lost their lives in total, while 8828 buildings were damaged and 9844 vehicles were destroyed. In view of the scale of the damages caused by the bad weather, the insurance companies involved have reinforced their reception and victim indemnification unit. Tawuniya, one of the main insurance companies in the kingdom, has provided its clients with a green number to collect their loss notification. King Abdallah has granted each victims' family 1 million SAR (267 000 USD) in indemnification while the Ministry of Finance announced it would to take charge of non-insured damages.
