Toll of the fire and explosion of Skikda’s complex

LOn Monday, 19 January 2004, Algeria suffered its biggest industrial disaster since independence. An explosion destroyed the Skikda chemical gas compound (500 kms east of Algiers). The fire that ensued has been brought under control ten hours later. As to the casualty toll, 27 people perished and 74 were wounded. Production should resume by mid February.
The three GNL units, (20, 30, 40) destroyed by the explosion are covered by the Algerian Company of Transportation Insurance (CAAT).
