According to the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), acts of piracy are at their lowest in the last six years, with the drastic decline in attacks off the Horn of Africa accounting for this trend.

Patrolling warships, security teams accompanying commercial vessels as well as actions of the Somali government have greatly annihilated this scourge. This decrease has, however, been offset by a sharp increase in attacks off Nigerian coasts.
