Nearly 30 000 USD insured by the JICA index insurance program

According to figures released by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the index insurance program currently has 5600 members in the Oromia region, for an insured amount of 30 000 USD.

Launched last November, this program, the "Weather Index Insurance (WII)" aims to cover farmers of regions with low levels of rainfall against the effects of the drought.

It should be noted that, the launch of Wii is one of the three stages of the "Rural Resilience Enhancement Project (RREP)" set up by JICA and the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture in response to the drought that hit East Africa in 2011.
