Tobacco-free day: insurers and reinsurers disengage from the tobacco industry

Established by the World Health Organization (who) in 1987, the tobacco-free day takes place every 31st of May to recall the dangers posed by smoking (dependence, deterioration of health, slow and painful death).

In addition to its consequences on the health of active and passive smokers, OMS underlines the fact that smoking not only deepens the poverty of individuals and families, but it increases the burdens on the States as well.

In their role as partners of their clients' health, several insurers and reinsurers signed the "Tobacco-Free Finance Pledge" on September 26, 2018. They have thus committed to no longer invest in the tobacco industry. AEGON, Allianz, Aviva, AXA, Generali, Munich Re, NAT Re, SCOR, Swiss Re and Zurich Insurance are among the 120 signatories of this Pledge.
