According to the first estimates, the material damage of the cyclone Nargis which literally lashed the country on May 2 would amount to billion USD. Regarded as a major human catastrophe, the cyclone has claimed the lives of 78 000 people while another 56 000 are missing, a provisional toll that is turning out to be even more dramatic in terms of human losses and as regards the trail of destruction it caused.
