FANAF echoes

Set up on March 17, 1976 in Yamoussoukrou (Cote d'Ivoire), the Fédération des Sociétés d'Assurance de Droit National Africain (FANAF) is a professional association based in Dakar (Senegal). It counts, so far, among its members 115 insurance and reinsurance companies.

It held from February 20 to 24, 2006 in Yaoundé its thirtieth annual General Assembly under the title: “The stakes and the opportunities of sustainable development, the contribution of the insurance sector”. More than 400 professionals from twenty African French-speaking countries, the Maghreb, Europe and the Middle East attended.

The major points of agreement following the meeting are:

  • The creation of a support fund for the research on HIV/AIDS and other African pandemics, especially Malaria and Tuberculosis.
  • Adoption of FANAF's 350 million FCFA (635 800 USD) budget and the affiliation fees of each member company which amounts to 1.75 million FCFA (3 200 USD).
  • Granting a subsidy worth 7.5 million FCFA (13 600 USD) to Yaoundé's Institut International des Assurances (IIA).
  • Setting February 2007 and Cotonou (Benin) as the venue of FANAF's thirty-first General Assembly.
