2017, the most expensive year in terms of natural catastrophes

According to Swiss Re, the year 2017 should be the most disastrous exercise in terms of natural catastrophes.

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and the earthquakes that hit Mexico are expected to cost insurers 95 billion USD. These losses in less than a month exceed by far the 54 billion USD achieved in 2016.

The economic damage caused by the aforementioned disasters would amount to 300 billion USD, an amount significantlty higher than the 175 billion USD recorded during the year 2016.

In the third quarter of 2017, Swiss Re expects a 3.6 billion USD loss in respect of the recent events (after retrocessions and before taxes).
