A 6.9% increase of the insurance turnover in 2011

With a turnover of 87 323 285 000 DZD (1 157 033 526 USD), the Algerian insurance market has posted a 6.9% growth in 2011. With 79 830 394 000 DZD (1 057 752 720 USD) in premiums, non-life insurance is the one pulling the market upwards. Motor and property insurance account for more than 82% of the overall market’s turnover, with respective growths of 9.5% and 8.2%. Agricultural insurance and credit guarantee insurance have reported double-digit increases: +31.4% for the former and +12.7% for the latter. Life insurance has posted a 7.1% decrease at 6 670 384 000 DZD (88 382 588 USD) compared to 7 179 526 000 DZD (98 431 301 USD) in 2010. This decline is accounted for by restructuring of this class of business and the 37.9% decrease of the premiums collected in personal accident insurance.
