A couple starts the year 2018 by cashing 1.6 million USD of their insurer

Ong Han and his wife Enny Ariandini Pramana started off the year 2018. The Indonesian couple wins their case against the life insurer AIA and one of its agents. On December 29, 2017, the court found that AIA was responsible for the fraud made by its insurance agent and granted the couple the right to a compensation of 1.59 million USD.

A complicated story

It all started in late 2002, the AIA agent subscribed a fake insurance policy to Ong which he called "Thank You Policy". With the premium collected, the agent subscribed six insurance policies for him, his wife and their daughter.

During the validity of the false insurance policy, the agent withdraws savings from three of the six contracts on behalf of his family members and remits a sum of money to Ong. In 2008, the customer learns that "Thank You Policy" is a fake policy. Without delay, he filed a complaint and sued the insurer and its agent in court.

After many confrontations, the agent ends up pleading guilty. He was sentenced to an eight-year prison in May 2017. The court decided that the insurer AIA had his share of responsibility and condemned him to pay a compensation to the Ong family.
