A mild first half of 2018 in terms of natural catastrophes

According to insurance and reinsurance broker Aon, the economic damage caused by natural disasters reached 45 billion USD in the first half of 2018. This amount is significantly lower (-64%) than the average of the last ten years. Insured losses during the reporting period amounted to 21 billion USD, which corresponds to 47% of the total volume of economic damage.

Despite this significant drop in losses, analysts fear the return of the scenario of 2017: a year that was mild during the first eight months and disaster stricken during the last four months.
