Actuarial business, an ever-thriving industry in Morocco

The Fifth African Actuarial Congress took place on March 15 and 16, 2018 in Casablanca. Co-hosted by the International Actuarial Association (IAA) and the Moroccan actuarial association, (AMA), this event provided opportunities to discuss the status of actuaries within insurance and reinsurance companies.

A new regulation governing this business is now under negotiations in Morocco. According to participants, it is meant to broaden the role of actuaries. The latter, formerly confined to statistics and probability calculations, will now have to bear much more significant responsibilities.

Conference participants have also underscored the importance of deploying new technologies in the business. Nowadays, the operational scope of actuaries has extended to management and processing of information provided by databases, a solution that will enable them to better contain risks and reduce losses.
