AIG is posting substantial losses in 2009

One year and a half after its spectacular bailout and the injection of 180 billion USD of public money, AIG is disappointing the markets by publishing a loss of 10.9 billion USD for the year 2009. The reported deficit is approximately ten times less important than that of 2008 when losses attained 99.3 billion USD. The company, which cut 20 000 jobs in one year, has voiced its intention to continue its assets cession strategy. The insurer also stated that it could once again make recourse to public aid in 12 months' time.
