AIG, net results down for the first quarter of 2018

AIG has posted a 21% decline of its net profits closed on 31 March 2018. They amounted to 938 million USD compared to the 1.2 billion USD reported during the same period of 2017.

The American insurer attributes this slowdown to rising compensations for victims of the natural catastrophes that occurred at the beginning of 2018. They pertain particularly to storms in the United Sates, mud slides in California and to the powerful earthquake that shook Papua New Guinea on February 26, 2018.

The toll of these disasters amounted to 376 million USD, in addition to the 135 million USD generated from other events.
