Algerian insurance market: 2021 half-year turnover

Algerian insurance marketAfter having been heavily affected by the health crisis, the Algerian insurance market is back to growth in H1 2021.

The overall turnover (direct business + acceptances) amounts to 75.05 billion DZD (557.85 million USD), a 5.7% increase over one year.

As at 30 June 2021, non-life premiums have progressed by 6.4% to reach 64.707 billion DZD (480.97 million USD). They represent 86.2% of the total written premiums in Algeria in the first half of 2021. This performance is driven by the growth of all the classes of business except for the motor activity which posted a 2.3% drop in its turnover.

With a market share of 8.7%, life and health insurance has recorded a slight decline of 0.3% in written premiums to 6.553 billion DZD (48.71 million USD). International reinsurance acceptances have gone from 3.642 billion DZD (28.13 million USD) as at 30 June 2020 to 3.79 billion DZD (28.17 million USD) a year later, representing 5.05% of total premium income.
