Amatrice earthquake: the first toll in figures

According to Fitch Ratings agency, the cost of insured losses of the earthquake of 24 August 2016, would be about 200 million USD. Some of the losses will be borne by the national fund of natural catastrophes .

This figure highlights, once again, the low penetration of earthquake insurance in an area highly exposed to this kind of events.

To date, the human toll of the disaster Amatrice reported 291 dead, 400 injured and 2 500 homeless.

As a reminder, the center of Italy is regularly affected by earthquakes of great magnitude. The latest largest disaster in the region took place on April 9, 2009 in L'Aquila, located in the Abruzzo region, at 50 km from Amatrice in Umbria.
