AstraZeneca: Covid-19 treatment proved ineffective

AstraZenecaOn Tuesday 15 June 2021, AstraZeneca declared that its Covid-19 treatment has been proven ineffective. Phase III clinical trials, that was conducted on 1 121 subjects over 18 years old and infected with the virus, showed that the treatment failed to prevent symptoms in 67% of cases.

As the primary objective was not met, AstraZeneca is still conducting trials to evaluate the efficiency of its treatment in patients before exposure to the virus and in people who have developed a severe form of the disease.

Known as AZD7442, the monoclonal antibody-based treatment is being developed in partnership with University College London Hospitals.
