Autonomous car test allowed in Florida
Florida Governer Ron DeSantis has signed a bill authorizing the testing of autonomous cars on the State's roads. However, these vehicles must meet two conditions:
- have insurance coverage with a minimum capital of 1 million USD
- report any accident to the authorities
By enacting this law, DeSantis intends to compete with the State of California by attracting the 62 companies that are registered in the latter State. Are particularly targeted the market leaders such as Tesla, Uber, Waymoo,...
For now, the technologies used by autonomous car designers are not immune to criticism. Tesla's autopilot system was called into question after one of its vehicles collided with a semi-trailer in 2016. Meanwhile, an Uber car killed a pedestrian in March 2018; accidents that reveal the shortcomings of these revolutionary machines.
