Aviation insurance premiums deemed high in Africa

Insurance premiums of African airliners are higher than those of their international counterparts.

Esayas WoldeMariam, general manager of Ethiopian Airlines, attributed this situation to an over-regulated aviation sector. African companies are struggling to cope with international air transport safety standards.

This sector is supervised by several global organizations such as International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
