Berkshire Hathaway invests 620 million USD in Markel

During Q1 2022, Berkshire Hathaway has made several equity investments for a total amount of 51 billion USD.

Warren Buffet's holding company has thus taken control of 420 293 shares of Markel (an American insurance and reinsurance company), valued at 620 million USD as of 31 March 2022. This operation comes along with the acquisition of the New York-based insurer Alleghany for 11.6 billion USD.

Both transactions are part of the American conglomerate's strategy to strengthen its insurance activities.

Berkshire has also acquired or increased its stake in many classes of business pertaining to other companies, among which Occidental Petroleum Corporation, Citigroup, Activision Blizzard, Chevron, etc.
