Business interruption: South African insurers object to court decisions

lawSouth African insurers are rejecting pandemic-related business interruption claims. Guardrisk, a subsidiary of the Momentum Metropolitan Holdings group, has refused to compensate one of its clients for business interruption after Covid-19. Sentenced for the third time, the insurer appealed to the Supreme Court to win its case.

The South African group Santam is also appearing before the Supreme Court for refusing to indemnify two of its clients.

Local insurance companies do not consider the pandemic risk to be an insurable event.
