CIC Insurance plans to insure low-income farmers in Kenya

CIC Insurance wants to insure low-income farmers by offering over 250,000 microinsurance policies for livestock over the next five years. According to Tom Gitogo, CEO of the Kenyan group, the project aims to improve the living conditions and livelihoods of low-income farmers and their families.

In addition to risk mitigation, underwriters will receive financial literacy training and access to veterinary services.

This project is part of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation’s 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy. Kenya is a country which depends on agriculture and, in particular, on livestock.
