Complaints against Taiwanese insurance companies rose by 44%

taipeiComplaints filed the Ombudsman increased by 44% during the first quarter of 2019. Underwriters generally complain about the insurers' refusal of reimbursements which goes as far as the rejection of coverage and compensation. Policyholders also complain about the false information provided by insurance agents when underwriting the risks.

Nearly 1 400 complaints were submitted to the Ombudsman in the first three months of 2019, 72% of which relate to life disputes and 25% to non life insurance. The remaining 3% are not identified.

According to some analysts, the increase in complaints may be accounted for by the increased awareness among policyholders.
