Construction, tighter regulation

Nearly 13 000 workers lost their lives on the Turkish yards since 2002. 272 have died since the beginning of 2014 among whom ten in a falling elevator used in the building of a luxury tower in Istanbul last September.

To stop this massacre, the authorities decided to tighten controls on the qualifications of building contractors and working conditions. A bill, which is being drafted, will go through Parliament within two months.
Istanbul is experiencing a massive boom in the construction of skyscrapers, with the largest number of them in all European cities.
