Covid-19: Africa, a continent in distress

africa covid-19In the last seven days, the number of Covid-19 infections has increased by 26% in Africa. In one week, 233 577 new cases have been reported, including 118 413 in South Africa, 31 517 in Tunisia and 17 212 in Zambia.

Several other African countries have found themselves in the same situation, with an explosion in the number of contaminations that is causing health systems to collapse.

The Delta variant, present in no less than 15 countries, and the lack of a sufficient quantity of vaccine are making the health situation worse. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 77% of newly diagnosed cases are linked to the Indian variant. In Uganda, the contamination rate is as high as 97%.
