Covid-19: Morocco produces Chinese vaccine and buys Russian doses

Morocco is a pioneer in the fight against Covid-19 in Africa. In partnership with the Sinopharm laboratory, the Kingdom is authorised to package the Chinese vaccine and produce ready-to-use pre-filled syringes.

Sinopharm is the only laboratory accredited to produce this type of syringe in Africa. The lab’s production rate has tripled in order to keep pace with the widespread distribution of the vaccine.

In addition to the Chinese Covid-19 vaccine, Morocco pre-ordered 17 million doses from AstraZeneca. The government also reportedly ordered 20 million doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.

Considerable efforts are being made to carry out the vaccination campaign, with nearly 2 888 vaccination centres under construction.
