Covid-19: resurgence of the Delta variant

CoronavirusAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), at the end of July 2021, the Delta variant has been detected in 124 territories. In response to the resurgence of the Indian strain, some countries are implementing a series of measures to counter the spread of the pandemic.

China is taking similar measures to those adopted at the beginning of the pandemic: lockdown and mass screening. The country is also tightening travel restrictions for its citizens abroad.

In Australia, more than half of the 25 million population was placed on lockdown.

The rise in the number of cases and hospitalizations in Israel could push the country to institute a fourth lockdown in September 2021. This decision depends on the impact of the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The United Kingdom is also experiencing a spike in the number of cases including deaths related to the new coronavirus. The country is conducting studies on the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Delta variant. The results of a survey conducted by Imperial College London show that vaccines reduce the risk of infection by 49%. Existing vaccines are only effective in preventing the development of a severe form of Covid-19 and do not prevent infection.

According to experts, the pandemic may hinder the global economic recovery.
