Covid-19 vaccine: no link established with elderly deaths

vaccineIn several countries, elderly people have died after receiving one of the Covid-19 vaccines. Currently, the number of cases remains low with no link between the causes of death and the vaccine.

In Norway, 33 of about 20 000 nursing home residents vaccinated with Comirnaty (Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine) have died. The Norwegian Medicines Agency has not established a direct link between the vaccine and deaths. However, it declared that the side effects (fever, nausea, etc.) may have caused the death of elderly people, already weakened by other diseases.

On 22 January 2021, the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM) reported the death of nine people who received a Covid-19 vaccine in Ehpad [residential institutions for dependent elderly people] and elderly people's homes. The ANSM did not establish a relationship between the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and the deaths.

Other countries report deaths of elderly people vaccinated against Covid-19, such as in Sweden (13) and Iceland (7). Once again, no link with the vaccine was established in the aforementioned cases.
