Crisis, Swiss insurers want to appease markets

In an effort to reassure the market, the Swiss insurers have decided to disclose their level of exposure to the American financial crisis. By mid September, thereinsurer Swiss Re calculated at 44 million USD its liability with Lehman Brothers and at 177 million USD with AIG. Swiss Re's liability in Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac is estimated at 9.6 billion USD.

The insurer Zurich Financial Services (ZFS), on its part, has announced an exposure of 250 million USD in Lehman Brothers and 8.3 billion USD in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
